My weight loss journey.

Hello everyone, I have been overweight/chubby since I was around five years old-so almost 15 years back. It got worse as day passed by. I ate junk food all the time. I changed my lifestyle in June 2012. From there, I decided to start loving myself.I chose to finally gave up most of my favourite food/snacks – candy,soda,ice-cream,pizza hut, mcdonalds and so many more, mostly fattening food.I told myself I wanted to become a healthy person.

Today, I have successfully reduced 30kgs of my body weight,I can finally walk around with a smile on my face no matter where I go. I finally gained back my self confidence. I start to look myself in the mirror and for the first time on over fifteen years I like what I see. “The picture shown in the mirror is the real me and I am going to let the light shine on me. I deserve this body, I earned it. It has been so much blood , sweat and tears. I have been so sick of starving myself ( though I know it’s not the right way) , working out and eating healthy most of the times . There are times where I just wanted to visit Pizza Hut and Mcdonalds and order everything I love/want. I thank god I didn’t.

In case you don’t know , here’s how much weight I have lost :

OMGOSH! I know. It’s scary and awful. When I was browsing through my old photos, my jaw dropped . Like, I always knew I was gaining weight but I could never fathom just how much. Now you know that quote “ you don’t what you’ve lost until it’s gone” ? In my case,it’s about the amount of fats. I was really big but I don’t think I really walked around looking like that everyday. I contemplated over whether I should post this picture or not but I figured I have nothing to lose since I am not that person anymore. I am the much healthier and happier on the right . hahaha. I think I have made a great progress and I am proud of myself. I thought I would have binged and caved in to my old habits eventually and my weight would rebound back up again but I have maintained it surprisingly well.

Since there are quite a lot of people have been asking me how did I do it, so I decided to do a blog post with some of my own tips which helped me along the way,to provide some motivation to the others out there who truly need it. I am not reaching out to annoying girls who are perfectly normal sized but complain that they are fat, I really hope to reach out to actually overweight and obese people who have physical and mental condition that they want to mend. I don't claim to be a diet / body / health / nutritionist expert of sorts, but this list below has worked well for me, and I hope it will for you too.

Chin Ching Yee’s ways to lose weight. HAHA!

      1)  Drink more water in between and right before meals.

As we know, water is the healthiest and most natural diet suppressant. Not only does drinking enough water aid in keeping your skin clear, body hydrated and your brain functioning well,it also results in you feeling full for longer periods of time.Drink a glass of water before meals. It will decrease the amount of food you will eat .

 2)  Strictly no supper.

Everyone knows that to lose weight, you will have to eat less in general. No food to be taken four hours before bed. I can’t tell you to skip dinner because that would be unhealthy but have a light dinner instead. Mainly protein and vegetables for example lean meat with broccoli. From the beginning I had half a bowl of rice and then I reduced to five tablespoons then to 3 tablespoons and now I rarely take rice. A good way for me to make sure I don’t succumb to supper cravings is to sleep earlier. When I feel hungry at night, I will drink water and go to bed early.

3)  Weigh yourself.

When I was gaining weight,I always kept myself off the weighing scale. I ran further away from it whenever I saw one. I couldn’t face the truth. Not for a long time. But now, I jump on the weighing scale a few times a month. If you want to lose weight, you have to face the truth that your body is in an unhealthy state right now.

      4)  Eat at the right time.

You eat only when you need and want to but make sure it’s in a small and controlled amounts. It’s better to have 4 or 5 small meals throughout the day. To me, I did not do that, I starved myself. I know it is not a good way to reduce weight. In my way, I only have a cup of MILO ( chocolate malt drink ) in the morning and a 5 or 3 tablespoons of rice in the evening. I only have two meals a day. I don’t recommend you to do that because it’s really torturing. Starving is bad. When I have craving that lasts for hours or even days , satisfy it. Share the food with somebody. To be really honest here, I stopped eating fast food and junk food for a year. I didn’t even have a bite of my favourite bigmac, double cheese burger and hawaii chicken pizza for a year.

5) Stop eating when you feel adequately satiated.

If you persistenly have smaller meals, your stomach will naturally shrink as well and it won’t need as much food to become full. The first time I cut down on my usual amount of intake, I felt really unsatisfied or reluctant but I got used to it very quickly.

       6)   Workout

Running, gym, yoga, pilates, tennis, squash or anything. Just  find something and do it. Anything but sitting on your ass. You cannot only depend on diet.

7) Reduce carbs intake.

Main source of carbohydrates include noodles, rice, pasta, bread, potatoes, any starchy and sugary food. So that means an innocent looking of an apple has some carbo in it too.But that doesn’t mean it’s bad and making you fat for it is naturally sweet. There are good carbs and bad carbs.

Good carbs as in whole grains, vegetables and fruits.

Bad carbs as in white bread and white rice.

Back then I didn’t even have to exercise excessively . I just lowered my carbs intake and I usually see weight loss results within days. But of course I starved too.

8) Wear clothes that fit you.

If you're the type who likes to wear baggy, loose-fitting stuff all the time, your weight gain may not be immediately obvious and it doesn't feel good when your clothes that used to fit, don't any more. If you know what's good for you, you'll do something about it. But fashion didn't even matter to me.I just let myself go.No make up, hair was shit, fashion sense was also shit. It was severely depressing. Even if you're a big girl, you deserve to indulge in fashion, pamper yourself and wear nice clothing. It will inspire you to shed some pounds so that you may look even better in future outfits. Completely letting yourself go and not caring how you end up looking or feeling like is the worst possible thing you could do for yourself. Don't let yourself go, don't lose hope. I know its inevitable that you lose some self-confidence when you gain weight, which is why you need to regain your self-love back.

9) Victory

Celebrate every victory no matter how small it is. Reward yourself something but not food. You are not a dog,you don’t reward yourself with food. Buy yourself a little gift, new clothes or shoes? Tell somebody about it to gain support from them. You won’t survive this journey on your own.Don’t blame yourself if you’re not straight away seeing the results you were hoping for. It will not be easy,it takes time but it will completely worth every single tear and sweat drop that came out of this.

Always remember, our body is constantly a work in progress. No overweight or obese person will be fat or thick forever , unless you continue stuffing your face and gorging your body with unhealthy food day after day. It is never too late to start making a change now. I still love food to the heavens, hell and back. :D
